Google Gmail with voice-call support

Google added to it's Gmail the option to make calls on mobile phones and landline telephones. They published it today on their blog. By combining Gmail and Voice function, the voice-call has been enabled from the computer and you will be able as well receive incoming calls. Exiting Google Voice users can connect their accounts with Gmail, but is not necessary as long as all calls are free.

Calling numbers in USA and Canada is for free, but calls to other countries are charged at very low rates. Google has promised, that calls in USA and Canada will remain free at least until the end of the year. Then they will calculate if overseas calls make enough profit, to keep this model. Use Google and call for free everyone you want, well at least if he is not overseas :)

ATI HD 6000 Series October 2010

I can confirm that ATI plans to launch sales of next generation ATI AMD graphic cards this year, probably October 2010, which is exactly one year from announcement of Radeon HD 5000 series. It is also confirmed that HD 6000 series will be build on 40nm technology. Two code names are mentioned, Turks and Caicos and would be replacement for Radeon HD 5670, HD 5550 and HD 5400 series.

For products which will replace HD 5800 series, code name Cayman is mentioned, will not be available for sale this year, but will be announced in October. ATI also plans monster graphic card, dual-core high performance graphic card - HD 6970.

Canon has developed 120-Megapixel sensor

PC Pro - Canon has developed new sensor for digital cameras, it has 120-Megapixels. APS-H sensor, which is the same type as the Canon EOS-1D, in theory supports the resolution 13.280 x 9.184 or 120 Megapixels. Canon claims, that the number of pixels does not have (big) impact on the responsive times. The improved method of reading from the camera with that sensor is 9.5 fps.

But unfortunately we will not be able to buy camera for every day use with that kind of sensor in near future. Canon has three years ago developed sensor with 50-Megapixels and even those cameras are far away from every day use. They even said, that they have no plans to use those sensors in cameras for home users, but only in so-called commercial products, which are especially emphasized in the medical devices.

The Project Natal (code name for a "controller-free gaming and entertainment experience") is Microsoft's project, which was expected to be released last Christmas, but Microsoft delayed it on year 2010. If you will want to experience Project Natal, you must have or you will have to buy first Xbox 360 console and add on Project Natal, which is going to cost no more than $ 200. Very cheap for revolution it is going to bring.

It is going to be the whole new gaming experience, without any controllers, only your moves. If you will want to play boxing, then you will have to punch your oponnent with your hand, kick the ball with your leg. But that is not all, the technology will be able to recognized your gestures, your face and your voice. It will map your body and to the motion analysis. It will change the way of playing games forever.

Official release date is again Christmas 2010, but regarding to rumors it will be released sooner,

Medal of Honor official release date

The gaming gigant Electronic Arts announced the latest Medal of Honor last month. Beside that, they have told us the official release date, some facts and official game trailer. Probably you want to know the release date first - in October 12th. You will not be some Second World War hero, but the game environment is going to be set in modern times, probably somwhere in Middle East.

Anyway CEO of EA Games, Frank Gibeau, for one web site told they had put much more focus on the whole saga and this time they want to release one of the best game of new generation. Couple years ago we were stranded with the promises which were spoken for Medal of Honor: Airborne and this time it is a little harder to believe that they will bring something really great. Hope dies the last, responsible for the game development are this time EA's LA Studio and Dice. They have lot of opportunities to manage it this time.

New Medal of Honor is expected October 12th for Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. You can take a look on official game trailer. Quite impressive, isn't it?

Ubisoft announced Tom Clancy's HAWX 2

Tom Clancy saga has greatly expanded in last few years. In addition to Tom Clancy's traditional games such as Rainbow Six, Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon, we also got two new genre games. I am talking about the strategy End War and HAWX flight simulation.

If you have fallen in love with HAWX, then I will give you some excellent news. Ubisoft announced that is allready developing HAWX 2, which is being developed in Ubisoft Bucharest. The gamers will have an opportunity to play with most advanced technology airplanes in virtual world.

The release date is this Autumn, for Playstation 3, Xbox 360, PC and Wii. That is about everything Ubisoft wanted to say about the new game. Probably they will tell more information on E3.

Russian hacker stole half a million Facebook accounts

Recognised Russian hacker known by it's pseudonym Kirlos got over the Facebook users. If it's to believe Russian newspaper Vendomosti, it has been stolen from popular social network about half a million accounts. The worst thing is, that those accounts were offered for sale.

So far he has managed to sell about 700 thousand user accounts (including with passwords). One Facebook account cost $ 25.00 to $ 45.00. Probably all accounts will be used by spammers to send spam messages.

As stolen accounts can be abused for access to personal information of Facebook users, I recommend that you immediately change your access password and continue do safely use your Facebook account.

Google bought LabPixies

According to TechCrunch Google went shopping yesterday. They bought a new Israeli company LabPixies. The company is best known by the popular game Flood-it! for Apple iPhone, in addition they also produced bunch of other games for iGoogle, Facebook, Hi5, MySpace and Android.

Detailed information of the takeover price is not public, but Israeli newspapper TheMaker mentioned numbers between 15 and 25 million dollars which is excellent for the company which made revenue of $ 1 million in angel funding. Don Loeb from Google explains that the company was bought because of talented employees which will be later connected to their center for research and development in Tel Aviv to support iGoogle in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

New Intel i7 980x CPU

After a year, Intel has refreshed it's top processor i7. Despite some rumors, the CPU is not marked as i9, but remains i7. We can only make specualtion what will Intel show us under i9 mark. First and for least half a year, Intel's only six-cores CPU works with the interface LGA 1366 and requires X58 chipset. The CPU with codename Gulfotwn is based on 32nm architecture technology. As it's predecessors includes hyper-threading, which means that number of logical processors rose to 12. Processors has also added new commands (SSE 4.1 and SSE 4.2), including for encryption AES. There is also known Trubo Boost mode, support for QPI link controller and integrated DDR3 Triple Channel 1066Mhz. It has 12MB cache L3, constisting of over 1.17 billion transistors.

It's maximum energy consumption is below 130W, which is not surprising that Intel will offer a new cooling fan (box version), called DBX-B, which uses cooper heat pipes and it does it's job much better and quiter than known models. (from 20 dBA at 800rpm up to 35 dBA at 1800rpm). Intel i7-980x oveclocks very good. With just a small increase of voltage at 1.375 V, the stable operation was achieved at 4.2GHz. It would go even further (air cooled).

The processor is not for everyone, enthusiast will love it, although it's the Intel's most expensive extreme desktop processor at the moment. If you are buying it to get the most out of the computer games, I have to disappoint you, because the difference is not rapid comparing Core 2 Duo's and will not be until computer games and applications will not be written to use all six cores.

Lot of people leave their music files on internet unprotected most of the time. You do not need to search illegal web sites to find your favorite music MP3s, because Google can find it easily for you. You just have to type certain query in search and you can get all the music you want.

Vaseline saves scratched optical media

It certainly happened to all of us, that we accidentally damaged a CD or DVD optical media, that optical unit was no longer able to read it. Until now there was no solution, the media was only usable as a frisbee and in the end we thrown it away. But I have great news - Vaseline saves!

Somewhat unusual, but highly effective process was introduced by computer enthusiast at portal Instructables. First you have to lubricate the media with vaseline. With cotton wool, soaked in alcohol remove the redundant vaseline. By this the underside of the media becomes completely smooth and easier to read.

With an innovative and affordable procedure we can not fix optical media, which has damaged upper layer, where data is located and those who scratches are too deep. You can view the entire process on Instructables web site.

Today the dreams has came true in CERN. Proton particles were coliding at three times greater speed than before. This has set a new milestone in the reasearch, which should give new answers of the creation of space.

The particles were coliding at energy 2.5 TeV, but today at 7 TeV for the first time. This is equal to 18 milion km / h, which means the particles would travel large hadron coolider 11.245 time in a second. Experiments at the power 7 TeV will be on going for 18 to 24 months, including a small technical maintainance by the end of 2010.

LHC operates with a half power, the main objective is 14 TeV, which means 600 milion colisions / s. At CERN hope, that they will suceed to deepen the knowledge of dark matter, antimatter and possibly hidden dimensions of space and time.

Large Hadron Coolider was built in 2003, financial help was contributed by more than 20 countries. The cost of the project is cca. 4 billion $. United States of America and Japan contributed the most of the financial help, although they are not members of CERN organization, just an observers.

The tunnel is 27 kilometres long, 46 - 150 m under the ground. Some skeptics and scientist were concerned, that the project would make black holes on planet Earth, but CERN has excluded this phenomenon. I hope they are right, or else it could come to end of the world.

Most of modern notebooks comes with integrated accelerometer which is used for protection of hard drive in case of accident and to prevent from data loss or any damages. Researchers at Stanford University have an idea how to use accelerometer for seismographic purposes.

The idea is pretty simple, all data of unusual accelerations are stored and if it would be forwarded to centralized system we would get an overview of earthquake activity all over the world. All you need is $ 50 USB meter and it is said, that also desktop computers will be able to measure unusual seismographic activity.

You can participate by yourself and send all the data with help of the program you install on your computer to Stanford University, which started the project Quake-Catcher Network. All the data are send to Stanford where the statistics exclude random moves of your laptop. Onyl seismic shocks are left, which were reported by many of notebooks in the same area. This are earthquakes.

Computer imitations for now detect only earthquakes of magnitude 4.0 or more, which means moderately weak ground shaking. In project participates 1000 people from more than 61 countries. Authors of the project hopes to attract at least 10000 people. Join now

If you tried to access your Gmail yesterday about 9.30 GMT for about 2.30 hours! worldwide for consumer and business accounts too - Google Apps. This is not good news if I mention that Google Apps Premier cost 50$ per year. They guarantee the data will be accessible 99.9% of time (9 hours not working in whole year). This is not guaranteed for users, who are using free Google Apps. Google find the bright side in that problem, telling users, that they can try Gmail Offline to read and browse old e-mails. On Google blog they posted the update what happened with explanation:

This morning, there was a routine maintenance event in one of our European data centers. This typically causes no disruption because accounts are simply served out of another data center.

Unexpected side effects of some new code that tries to keep data geographically close to its owner caused another data center in Europe to become overloaded, and that caused cascading problems from one data center to another. It took us about an hour to get it all back under control.

Google Earth revealed hidden CIA millitary base

Although the Pakistan government in 2006 claimed that the USA does not have any millitary bases in Pakistan anymore, the records (2006) from Google Earth, revealed that the US was secretly flying unmanned drones from the Shamsi airbase.

From this airbase the CIA was secretly launching the Predator drones that observed and attacked al-Qaeda and Taleban militants around Pakistan's border with Afghanistan. On later Google Earth records is possible to see new hangar, which experts assume to be for storing three Predators.

Three weeks after AMD, NVIDIA announced their version of graphic drivers, which fully supports and takes full advantage of all OpenGL 3.0 capabilities, accelerating their delivery of cutting-edge media platforms and applications. GeForce 182.06 (WHQL) drivers will be supported by GeForce 6,7,8,9 and 200. NVIDIA promised to provide users with most advanced functionality, best performance and widest compatibility possible. Due to OpenGL 3.0 the games like Fallout 3, Half Life 2 and Race Driver, will run faster for about 10% if antialiasing is enabled. On monday The Pirate Bay trial has started. Without a doubt this is the most important case the file-sharing community has ever witnessed. This is going to be express trial, which will ends in just a couple days. On the second day of the Pirate Bay trial, due to shortcomings in the prosecution evidence, around 50% of the charges in the case are going to have to be withdrawn. The prosecution cannot prove that the .torrent files used as a evidence are actually using The Pirate Bay tracker. The charges left, are just relating to "asisting making available" Everything related to the production will be removed from the claim, said prosecutor Håkan Roswall. The defense said that this is a sensation. How many times does happen to drop half of charges in just one day of trial? Peter Sunde said that this is a "EPIC WINNING LOL".

Third day of trial has court ended early. Prosecution presented the amended charges. On fourth day the trial has focused on Fredrik, questioned at lenght. Movie industry lawyer Monique Wadsted unexpectedly introduced new evidence. The defence and the court complained at this point, with Wadsted choosing to shout down the judge. Later in a trial Fredrik was questioned about his relation to advertiser Oded Daniel. When the prosecution asked if Oded was involved in the technical aspects of TPB, Fredrik replied.. “No, he’s not good at that. He uses Windows, so…” There was laughter heard on the live audio feed after that remark, not from the court room, but from the listening lounge next door where the bloggers are situated.
